Definitions: Children under age 18 (0-17) who live in families with incomes less than 50 percent of the federal poverty level.

Data Source: U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, Age by Ratio of Income to Poverty Level in the Past 12 Months (Universe: Population for whom poverty status is determined), 5-Year Estimates, Table B17024.

Footnotes: The federal poverty thresholds are updated each year by the U.S. Census Bureau and were established in 1964 using guidelines set by the Social Security Administration. Current thresholds can be found here.
