Definitions: Percentage of recent high school graduates in Washington state that enroll in a postsecondary institution at some point during the following academic year, starting with 2005. If a student enrolls in a 2-year college and a 4-year college in the same academic year they would only be counted could be counted for the 4-year college.

Postsecondary enrollment data for 2-year colleges includes both public and private colleges in Washington state and out-of-state. Enrollment data for Washington public 2-year colleges comes from the state Board for Community and Technical Colleges
(SBCTC). Data for private 2-year colleges and out-of-state 2-year colleges comes from the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC). Enrollment data for 4-year colleges includes both public and private colleges in Washington state and out-of-state. Washington public 4-year
enrollment data was gathered from the Public Centralized Higher
Education Enrollment System (PCHEES), managed by the Office of Financial
Management. Enrollment data for Washington private and out-of-state institutions was
provided by the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC), which captures 92
percent of all postsecondary enrollment nationwide.
