The number and percent of 3- and 4-year-old children living in Native American tribal areas who are enrolled in preschool. The New Mexico percentage is the total for all 3- and 4-year-old children living on tribal lands.
U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey, 5-year data (2006-2010), Table B14003
Data for the tribes and pueblos refer only to individuals living in those jurisdictions and do not include Native Americans living in cities. Data for Navajo are only for those living on the portion of the Navajo Nation that is located in New Mexico. Data for New Mexico refer to all Native Americans living in any tribe, pueblo or city.
In most tribes and pueblos, the vast majority of individuals living in these tribal areas are, themselves, Native Americans. Those who are not Native American alone can either be a different race entirely, or they may be two or more races, with Native American being one of those races.
