Data Source:

From Sickmund, M., Sladky, T.J., Kang, W., and Puzzanchera, C. (2011) "Easy Access to the Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement." Author's analysis of data from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), U.S. Department of Justice Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2010.

Footnotes: To preserve the privacy of the juvenile residents, cell counts have been rounded to the nearest multiple of three.  Massachusetts was the state where the juveniles committed the offense for which they were being held.
