Definitions: Child protection investigations by finding conducted during the state fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

Data Source: Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, by special request

The child protection investigation process begins with a report of child abuse and/or neglect. Reports are then screened to determine whether or not the allegations meet the definition of child abuse and/or neglect. Investigations are then conducted for screened-in reports of child abuse and neglect. Data reported here reflect the outcomes of these investigations according to three possible outcomes: valid, invalid, and other.

Child protection investigations for some parishes are included in the data of another parish. During the 2008-2010 time period, the offices listed below served multiple parishes as follows:

NA - data was not available for that geography for this timeframe.

Note that totals from parishes do not add up to the Louisiana totals because a small number of cases are handled directly by the state office.
