Definitions: Deaths occurring to infants under 1 year of age per 1,000 live births.

The data are reported by the place of residence, not the place of death.

Data Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics.
2003-2018 data: Population Reference Bureau, analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Multiple Causes of Death Microdata Files. Births are from the CDC, NCHS, Final Births Microdata Files.
