Why This Indicator Matters
Definitions:
Subsidized children are those whose families are served in Wisconsin Shares, the child care funding program. Those children also have an authorization stating the amount that the Wisconsin Shares Program will pay toward the cost of child care. Children are eligible in licensed, certified and “provisionally” certified settings.
The number of children receiving Wisconsin Shares subsidies represents an average of the number of children receiving subsidies in each month of the year. Many children do not receive subsidies for the entire year.
These data may have been influenced by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, starting in 2020.
