The abortion rate refers to the total number of abortions per 1,000 females of childbearing age (15-44).
The data used for this measure come from the Center for Health Statistics, Washington State Department of Health (DOH). Data were retrieved on June 21, 2017 from http://www.doh.wa.gov/DataandStatisticalReports/VitalStatisticsData/AbortionPregnancyData/AbortionPregnancyTablesbyTopic.aspx (Abortion and Pregnancy Data, Table 15).
S: Data estimate has been suppressed. When annual number of abortions was 10 or fewer, the rates are not shown.
Data last updated in June 2017 by Washington KIDS COUNT.
Every year DOH collects data from abortion providers across the state of Washington using the abortion reporting system. DOH also collects data from Certificates of Live Birth and Certificates of Fetal Death. Information about abortions performed in other states and in Canada for women who are residents of Washington State is obtained through voluntary cooperative arrangements between vital records offices in most states and Canadian provinces.
