Definitions: The number reflects children ages 0-18 receiving assistance in the Family Independence Program (FIP) in December. The Family Independence Program (FIP) provides temporary cash assistance to families with children and pregnant women to help them pay for living expenses such as rent, heat, utilities, clothing, food and personal care items.


The percent is based on the population ages birth to 18 in the prior year. Percents are suppressed with an "S" for counts fewer than 6 to maintain reliability. NA: Not Available

Multiple data requests to MDHHS for FIP city-level data have gone unanswered. Therefore, data for the cities of Detroit, Flint, and Grand Rapids are not reported.
