Definitions: The median cost for child care in a Type III (or, prior to 2017, a Class A center) as a percentage of the parish's median income.

Data Source: Child Care Costs - Agenda for Children's analysis of data from the "Louisiana Child Care Market Rate Survey 2005," "Louisiana Child Care Market Rate Survey 2007," "Louisiana Child Care Market Rate Survey 2009," "Louisiana Child Care Market Rate Survey 2010," "Louisiana Child Care Market Rate Survey 2012," and "Louisiana Child Care Market Rate Survey 2014," which are produced by Care Solutions, Inc. and the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services; The 2017 Louisiana Child Care Market Rate Survey was produced by the LSU Public Policy Research Lab and is available through the Louisiana Department of Education's web site.

Median Household Income Data - U.S. Census Bureau, Housing and Household Economic Statistics Division, Small Area Estimates Branch, Washington D.C.

Footnotes: Because parish-level data is not available, the child care costs for each DCFS region was used as the denominator prior to 2017. Beginning with the 2017 survey, data is reported according to each parish's zone (urban versus nonurban), which was the smallest geography made publicly available.
