Definitions:
Totals are number of children in substitute care at the end of the fiscal year.
Substitute care – in a foster family home, group home, or institution – is the temporary placement of children outside their homes due to abuse, neglect or dependency. Placing a child in substitute care is not intended as a permanent living arrangement but to protect the child with the ultimate goal of returning the child home.
Percentages of children may not add up to 100%, as there are some children for whom demographic information was not available.
