Students in Ohio take proficiency tests for English and Language Arts in grades three through eight and high school. The results in third grade are used to implement a program called the Third Grade Reading Guarantee. Students who do not achieve a level of "Proficient" or above will not progress to the next grade level. The levels of proficiency are "Limited," "Basic," "Proficient," and "Accelerated," and "Advanced." There is also a category "Untested."
