Definitions: Child population by age group.

Data presented for 2010 through 2019 are Vintage 2019 population estimates. Each year the U.S. Census Bureau revises their post-2010 estimates. Therefore, data presented here may differ from previously published estimates. Figures for 1990, 2000, and 2010 represent revised population estimates for July 1, 1990, July 1, 2000, and July 1, 2010 - not actual Census counts from April 1, 1990, April 1, 2000, and April 1, 2010.

Data Source: For state, counties, and state planning regions: U.S. Census populations with bridged race categories from the National Center for Health Statistics. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/bridged_race.htm

For Tribal Areas: 5-Year American Community Survey (ACS), Table DP05

Footnotes: ACS data reflects a 5-year pooled estimate. That is, the estimate is the result of data being continuously collected nearly every day for five years. LIMITATIONS - With regard to the ACS data, characteristics for geographic areas experiencing dynamic change due to things such as an environmental catastrophe (e.g., flood) or a plant closing will be mitigated since these estimates cover five calendar years of data. Caution is needed when using the multiyear estimates for estimating year-to-year change in a particular characteristic. This is because four of the five years in the 5-year estimate overlap with the next year’s estimate. Ideally, trend analysis with multiyear estimates should be done using estimates from non-overlapping periods (i.e., 2006-2010 and 2011-2015)
