Students are considered chronically absent from school if they miss more than 10% of a 180 day school year.

Youth who feel welcome at school, regardless of their background, and are provided with holistic support that meets all of their basic needs will be more motivated to come to school and will be more focused in school so that they can achieve their goals. However, similar to discipline, youth in Franklin County from many of the groups at higher risk for out of school suspensions were more likely to be chronically absent from school.
