Definitions: Child Deaths: number of deaths from all causes for children aged 5-17.
Average Annual Death Rate: Three-year average number of deaths to children aged 5-17 per 10,000 children aged 5-17. Rates are based on mid-year population.

Population Source:  National Center for Health Statistics, estimates from the Vintage postcensal series with an agreement with the U.S. Census Bureau.  July 1, 2011 is from internet release July 18, 2012; July 1, 2012 is from interment release June 13, 2013; July 1, 2013 is from internet release date June 26, 2014; and July 1, 2014 is from internet release date June 30, 2015.
Population Source:  National Center for Health Statistics, estimates of July 1, 2006,  2007, and  2008 United States resident population from the Vintage 2006, 2007, and 2008 postcensal series, prepared under a collaborative arrangement with the U.S. Census Bureau, Internet release dates 8/16/2007, 9/5/2008, and 9/2/2009 respectively.

Rates are based on mid-year population. Cause-specific death rates are based on small data bases; caution must be exercised when attempting to draw conclusions. It is recommended to show the number of deaths with the rate.
