Definitions: The number of children ages 0-18 who had some type of health insurance. After the 2000 census, data are based on a survey covering the three years ending with the year listed. The percent is based on the population ages 0-18 for the final year of the period.

Data Source: U.S. Census Bureau, Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE). Detroit and Flint are single-year estimates from the American Community Survey. Prior to 2017, estimates for Detroit and Flint only included children ages 0-17.

Footnotes:

In August 2016, Detroit data were switched from 1-year to 3-year ACS estimates to be aligned with SAHIE estimates, which cover 3 years.

Three-year estimates are no longer available. Single-year estimates for Detroit and Flint are used starting in 2014 through the present.
