Fourth Grade English Language Arts Proficiency

This indicator reports the total number and percentage of tests taken by 4th grade students which met or exceeded the performance goal on the Smarter Balanced English Language Arts Assessment.

The Smarter Balanced English/Language Arts Assessment measures proficiency in reading, writing, listening and research. Note that Smarter Balanced replaces Connecticut’s previous assessment, the Connecticut Mastery Test. This assessment is also presented in this report in lieu of 4th Graders Reading at Grade Level, which is no longer assessed separately.

Data Source: Connecticut State Department of Education, Published Data, Academic Years 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2021-2022. 


The totals and percentages of students meeting or exceeding goals were summarized from State Department of Education reports. Counts of 20 or fewerexcluding zerowere suppressed by the Department, as were percentages generated from suppressed counts.
