What the data shows
For the last three 5-year periods, with the latest period being 2015-2019, he average annual rate of children under age 6 with all parents in the work force has held at 70 to 71%. Prior periods back to 2006, the rates of all parents in the work force were 66- 69%.
At the county level, for the most recent 5-year annual average, from 2015-2019, five counties had rates that exceeded the state rate of 70.7% These were: Androscoggin (77.5%), Sagadahoc (76.9%), Cumberland (75.1%). York (73.7%), and Oxford (71.5%) The counties with the lowest rate of children under age 6 with all available parents in the workforce were: Piscataquis (51.8%), Washington (58.0%) and Aroostook (59.6%).

Definitions: The number and percentage of children 5 years and younger with all parents in the family working. For children living in a married-couple family or subfamily, this means that both parents are in the labor force. For children living in a single-parent family or subfamily, this means the resident parent is in the labor force. The civilian labor force includes persons who are employed and those who are unemployed but looking for work.
