Families with children in which no parent is in the workforce

Data Provided By

Definitions: The number of married-couple families and single householders with their own children under the age of 18, where no householder was employed or in the labor force; the percentage of families fitting these criteria out of all families with children under 18 years of age.

Data Source: U.S. Census, American Community Survey, Table B23007.
New Mexico data are 1-year estimates; county data are 5-year estimates.

Footnotes: Percentage is derived by dividing the number of male or female householders not employed or not in the labor force, with spouse who is unemployed or not in labor force, added to the number of single male or female householder not unemployed or not in the labor force, by the total number of families with own children under 18 years of age.

New Mexico state-level data typically are from the American Community Survey 1-year estimates. As a result of COVID-19 data collection challenges, the 2020 New Mexico state-level data are 5-year estimates and not comparable to other years. 2020 data for NM counties are still comparable to other years.
