Kids Count Data Center

Definitions: Number of students who drop out of high school before graduating and their percentage as a fraction of their net enrollment at 9th grade. Data are for a school year.

Data Source: Dropout and net enrollment data were provided by the Tennessee Department of Education, Office of Research. The KIDS COUNT division of the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth calculated and converted all data from district-level to county-level.

Definitions: Total number of persons of Hispanic origin younger than 18 years of age, who reside in an area. All numbers are estimates, and cut across race. For example, a Caucasian or African American with Hispanic ethnicity is included in the counts.

Definitions: Number of students suspended in a given school year and their rate as a percent of net enrollment for the school year.

Data Source: The Office of Research of the Tennessee Department of Education provided count and net enrollment data at the district level. The KIDS COUNT division of the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth converted district-level data to county-level and organized data for display.

Definitions: Number and percent of children under age 18 living with an income below the official poverty treshold.

Definitions: The number and percent of children under the age of 18 who receive financial support from the state's Families First program through Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) funds. Estimates are based on a state fiscal year (July - June).

Data Source: The Tennessee Department of Human Services provided Families First figures. Population data were supplied by the Tennessee Department of Health, Office of Policy Planning and Assessment, Division of Health Statistics. The KIDS COUNT division of the Tennessee Commission of Children and Youth organized and analyzed the data for rate calculation and display.
