Definitions:
Number: Number of live births with birth weight less than 2,500 grams (or 5 pounds, 8 ounces)
Rate: Number of live births with birth weight less than 2,500 grams (or 5 pounds, 8 ounces) per 100 live births.

Footnotes: LNE (Low Number Event): Numbers are not reported when there were more than zero and fewer than five events during the reporting period. Rates based on fewer than 20 events are not reported because they may be unstable.

Definitions: Number of children (ages 0-18) who are enrolled in either Medicaid or the Louisiana Child Health Insurance Program (LaCHIP).

Definitions:
Number: Number of children in custody or under the supervision of the Office of Juvenile Justice, including youth in secure or non-secure custody, as well as those on probation or parole.
Rate: Number of children in custody or under the supervision of the Office of Juvenile Justice per 1,000 youth ages 10-20.

Data reflect the population count for September 1 of a given year, and thus do not represent the total number of children who may have been under OJJ supervision in a given year.

Statewide data are larger than the sum of data from all parishes because a small number of youth under the supervision or in the custody of the Office of Juvenile Justice are "out of state" youth.

LNE (Low Number Event) is a value of fewer than 5 events or a rate based on fewer than twenty events and thus is not reported as a numerical value.

Definitions: Number of children enrolled in pre-kindergarten programs in public schools. This count includes children enrolled in special education, as well as children enrolled in general education programs.

Footnotes: Louisiana operates several different preschool programs through the public school system, including LA4 and programs funded through 8(g) grants and Title I funds. Some parishes also offer Head Start programs in public schools.

Parish-Level Data: Data for Recovery School District schools, charter schools, lab schools and city districts are reflected in the parish-level data of the parish in which the school is located. Data for Louisiana School for the Deaf and Louisiana Special Education Center are not included in parish-level data, but are reflected in the statewide totals.

NA indicates that data was not available for a school district/local education agency (LEA) for that school year. Most commonly, data is not available either because the LEA was not in existence in the reporting period or because the entity was not reporting enrollment data to the Louisiana Department of Education at that time.

Data reflect October enrollment counts, except for SY 2005 data, which reflect February 2006 counts.

Definitions:
Number: The average number of children served by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in a given state fiscal year (July 1-June 30).
Percent: The average number of children served by SNAP in a given state fiscal year (July 1-June 30) per 100 children ages 0-17 in the population.
