The current rate represents the number of slots available for federal fiscal year 2008. The trend represents the average annual change in slots available for federal fiscal years 2004-2008.

Definitions: The percent of the total number of federal tax returns filed by residents of the county that claim Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC). State and county numbers do not include residents in small zip codes from which fewer than 10 returns were filed. Data are from the Internal Revenue Service. Definitions: The percentage of occupied family households with children under age 18 that own their home and the percentage of occupied family households with children under age 18 that do not own their home.  The current rate represents the percent for calendar year 2007. 

This is a valuable indicator for the state of Kansas; unfortunately data is only available for the state and five most populous counties at this time.  The trend data is for calendar years 2004-2007.

Definitions: The percentage of live births to mothers who received Adequate or Adequate-Plus prenatal care, based on the Adequacy of Prenatal Care Utilization (APNCU) index. Starting in 2005, data were collected based on the 2003 revision of U.S. Standard Certificate of Live Birth, and data before 2004 were collected using the 1989 version. The revised 2003 certificate applies stricter rules in verifying prenatal care received, and therefore a lower APNCU index percentage may be expected in most counties. Data are from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and are based on Vital Statistics. The current rate represents the annual percentage for calendar year 2007. Mental health diagnoses range from Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRG) 425-432 which also cover all the medical DRGs in the Major Diagnostic Categories 19 – Mental Diseases and Disorders. Data are provided by the Kansas Hospital Association and Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Population estimates data are from the U.S. Census Bureau. Definitions: The percentage of kindergartners who received all recommended immunizations by age two years of the 4:3:1:3:3 (DTP, Poliovirus, MMR, Hepatitis B, and Haemophilus Influenzae B). Data are from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and are based on a retrospective survey of immunization certificates conducted each fall at the time of enrollment in kindergarten. The current rate is for the 2007-2008 academic year.  The trend represents the most recent four years.
