Definitions: The percentage of live births to mothers who received Adequate or Adequate-Plus prenatal care, based on the Adequacy of Prenatal Care Utilization (APNCU) index. Starting in 2005, data were collected based on the 2003 revision of U.S. Standard Certificate of Live Birth, and data before 2004 were collected using the 1989 version. The revised 2003 certificate applies stricter rules in verifying prenatal care received, and therefore a lower APNCU index percentage may be expected in most counties.
