Definitions: The percentage of public school students who are approved for the Free and Reduced Price Lunch Program at the beginning of the academic year. Data are provided by the Kansas State Department of Education. The current rate represents academic year 2011-2012.

Definitions: The estimated percentage of children under 18 years of age who live in families with incomes below 100% of the U.S. poverty threshold as defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. Data are based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates. The current rate represents the percentage for calendar year 2010.

Definitions: The two-year average percentage of children under 19 years of age without any type of health insurance during the prior calendar year and the three-year average percentage of children under age 19 with health insurance.

This is a valuable indicator for the state of Kansas; unfortunately data is not available at the county level for all 105 Kansas counties at this time.
