Data for 2000-2009 is based upon "bridged race estimates," while 2010 data provides a wider range of racial and ethnic categories reported by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Prior
to the 2010-2011 school year, the Louisiana Department of Education
used the following categories to describe race and ethnicity: American
Indian, Asian, Black, Hispanic and White. Beginning with the 2010-2011
school year, two additional categories are reported ("Native Hawaiian or
other Pacific Islander" and "More than one race, non-Hispanic"). As a
result, data prior to the 2010-2011 school year is not directly
comparable to data from the 2010-2011 school year and after.

Investigation information is reported according to the case worker's office location. In some cases, a single office serves multiple parishes. In recent years, the Department of Children and Family Services has implemented a series of office consolidations, so that some offices are now serving more parishes than they once did. As a result, for several parishes, data from fiscal years 2005-2007 is not directly comparable to later data. Please consult the footnotes for a full explanation.
