Definitions: The number of children hospital discharges of asthma diagnoses per 1,000 children under age 18. Asthma diagnoses are the ICD9-CM diagnoses codes 493.XX. Data is provided by the Kansas Hospital Association and Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Population estimates data are from the U.S. Census Bureau. The current rate represents the number of discharges per 1,000 children for federal fiscal year 2007. The trend represents the average annual change in discharges per 1,000 children for federal fiscal years 2003-2007.
