Data are provided by the Kansas State Department of Education. The current rate represents academic year 2008-2009. The trend represents the average annual change for academic years 2004-2005 through 2008-2009.

This indicator provides an estimate of the percentage of low-income school age children in each county. Children in families earning less than 185% of the federal poverty level qualify for free or reduced lunches. This map shows the participation in the free and reduced lunch program among 5 to 18 year old public school students in Kansas. Currently in Kansas, 42.69% of school children are receiving daily nutrition through the school lunch program.
