Definitions: The number and percent of children under the age of 18 who receive financial support from the state's Families First program through Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) funds. Estimates are based on a state fiscal year (July - June).

Data Source: The Tennessee Department of Human Services provided Families First figures. Population data were supplied by the Tennessee Department of Health, Office of Policy Planning and Assessment, Division of Health Statistics. The KIDS COUNT division of the Tennessee Commission of Children and Youth organized and analyzed the data for rate calculation and display.

Footnotes: *The Tennessee Department of Human Services submitted corrected counts for 2001 and 2002. Corrected values for 2001 and 2002 are shown, effective March 29, 2005.
