Definitions:
Number:
students within a cohort who dropped out of school at some point and did not return before their expected graduation date.

Rate: the number students within a cohort who dropped out of school at some point and did not return before their expected graduation date divided by the total number of students in a cohort.

Data Source: Louisiana Department of Education, by special request

Footnotes: Cohort dropout rates answer the question, "Among students who began high school in year X, how many had dropped out by their expected graduation date?"

Years listed here reflect the anticipated graduation date.

Please note that the methodology used to calculate a cohort dropout rate is different from the methodology used to calculate an annual dropout rate, and the two are not interchangeable.  For more information about these rates, read "Understanding Louisiana's Graduation and Dropout Rates."

S: Data for hurricane-affected parishes has been suppressed.
LNE (Low Number Event): Data is not reported when there were more than zero and fewer than five events.
NA: Data was not available for this geography.
