Definitions:
Number: The average number of children served by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in a given state fiscal year (July 1-June 30).
Percent: The average number of children served by SNAP in a given state fiscal year (July 1-June 30) per 100 children ages 0-17 in the population.

Data Source: SNAP participation data: Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, Office of Family Support, Quality Assurance Division. Population Data: 2004-2009: Population Estimates Program, Population Division, U.S. Census Bureau Washington D.C., 2010:  U.S. Census Bureau; Census 2010, Summary File 1, extracted from American Fact Finder.

Footnotes: SNAP provides monthly benefits that help eligible low-income households buy food. Because SNAP data are based on state fiscal year averages, population estimates for two years were averaged to calculate a Food Stamp participation rate per 100 children.
