Definitions: Number of children in foster care during a state fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

Footnotes: Please use caution in comparing foster care data across time. Two laws that were enacted by the Louisiana State Legislature in 2006 resulted in a substantial increase in the number of children who are in foster care.
