Definitions: Number and percent of public school students, ages 6-21, who receive special educational services. Children with giftedness and functional delay are excluded.

Data Source: Counts were supplied by the Tennessee Department of Education, Special Education Services. First day's membership data were provided by the Tennessee Department of Education's Office of Research. The KIDS COUNT division of the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth converted district-level data to county level and computed rate.

Note: Maps use the natural break classification method, which reflects patterns in the data by dividing the map into naturally occurring groups. Using statistical tools, this method determines cut-off points for each group by identifying large gaps in data values.
