Definitions: These numbers reflect a count of children in families where an investigation of alleged child abuse or neglect occurred. The rate is per 1,000 children ages 0-17.

Data Source: Michigan Department of Human Services, Children's Protective Services.

Footnotes: The numbers for Wexford and Missaukee are combined beginning in 1998. Grand Traverse and Leelanau are combined beginning in 2003. Mecosta and Osceola are combined beginning in 2006.

Note: Maps use the natural break classification method, which reflects patterns in the data by dividing the map into naturally occurring groups. Using statistical tools, this method determines cut-off points for each group by identifying large gaps in data values.
