Definitions: Percentage of births to women who did not start receiving prenatal care in the first trimester of the pregnancy. The methodology for collecting information on the time during pregnancy that prenatal care began was changed in the 2010 revision of the Maryland bith certificate. As a result, prenatal care data collected from 2010 onwards are not comparable to data collected in earlier years.

Data Source: Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Vital Statistics Administration.

Note: Maps use the natural break classification method, which reflects patterns in the data by dividing the map into naturally occurring groups. Using statistical tools, this method determines cut-off points for each group by identifying large gaps in data values.
