Definitions: The percent of fifth graders meeting standards, exceeding standards or scoring exemplary on the reading assessment at the end of the academic year. Data are from the Kansas Department of Education. The current rate represents academic year 2007-2008. The trend represents the average annual change for academic years 2003-2004 through 2007-2008.

Note: Maps use the natural break classification method, which reflects patterns in the data by dividing the map into naturally occurring groups. Using statistical tools, this method determines cut-off points for each group by identifying large gaps in data values.
