Definitions: The number of deaths from all causes per 100,000 children ages 1-14. Regionally, the population of children ages 1-14 is estimated by subtracting births from official estimates of children ages 0-14. The data are reported by child's place of residence, not place of death.

Data Source: 1991-US Bureau of the Census; Alaska Bureau of Vital Statistics. 1993 & 1994-Alaska Department of Labor; Alaska Bureau of Vital Statistics. 1995, 1997, & on-Alaska Bureau of Vital Statistics.

Footnotes:  Five years of data were combined to minimize the unreliability of measurement due to the small number of actual events. The reported values  are a rolling average across five years.  For example, we report the average value across the years 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. In 1991 the Anchorage Municipality and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough were combined.

Note: Maps use the natural break classification method, which reflects patterns in the data by dividing the map into naturally occurring groups. Using statistical tools, this method determines cut-off points for each group by identifying large gaps in data values.
